WINERIES AND WINE TOURISM

Vocal Vircan – Wine tourism

Our music makes a Vocal Vircan concertan ideal complement to a wine tourism experience, providing a touch of distinction and uniqueness.

Since we don’t have any stage requirements or, a priori, need sound equipment since we sing a cappella, we can adapt our concert to any event or activity, in a variety of locations. Therefore, Vocal Vircan can easily be part of your wine tourism experience offerings or similar.

Furthermore, and within the Georgian tradition, Vocal Vircan offers the popular “supra” experience: an ancient ancestral ritual where the toast with wine takes center stage and takes on a profound and heartfelt dimension.

Formats

Vocal Vircan sings a wide range of songs from the extensive Georgian repertoire, providing a rich and diverse musical experience. In addition, some songs feature traditional Georgian string instruments (panduri and chonguri), guitar, piano, and traditional percussion.

Our musical experience options can vary between:

Demonstration (10 minutes) / Short Concert (30 minutes) / Concert (1 hour)

These formats are adaptable if needed. We can also add the “supra” ritual to the experience, depending on the event’s theme.

Georgian polyphonic singing was declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001. Folk songs occupy a central place in Georgian culture. Some of these songs are associated with vineyard cultivation and date back to the 8th century. They were sung in all aspects of social life, from work in the fields to celebrations such as weddings and in Byzantine liturgical hymns.

Georgia is considered the birthplace of wine, the country where wine was born, as its viticulture and winemaking date back more than 8,000 years, with 500 native grape varieties and 18 PDOs currently in use.

A significant custom associated with Georgian tables is the wine toast called ‘supra’. It’s a ritual where each diner, starting with the master of ceremonies, proposes a toast filled with good wishes, telling a story, sometimes a speech, or a traditional song with a personal touch that can be humorous and, above all, warm-hearted.

Vocal Vircan is an a cappella vocal group based in Catalonia, with half of its singers of Georgian origin, that regularly performs concerts in Catalonia. It has been recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Georgian government, inviting it to sing at a Georgian diaspora event in December 2021 in Tbilisi (Georgia’s capital).
